MARCH 30, 2010: I'd like to post links to several more very generous reviews of e4e that have been published in recent months. Many thanks to all the reviewers for their interest in progressive economics pedagogy, and for their very kind words:
Simon Black reviewed the book for Canadian Dimension, Canada's most progressive newsmagazine.
APRIL 21, 2009 - I continue to get some very interesting e-mails from readers in various countries, with questions, feedback, and ideas. Keep those messages coming, to author@economicsforeveryone.com. I will reply to everyone.
Here are some excerpts from some of the recent messages:
APRIL 18, 2009 - I am thrilled at some of the latest reviews that have been published or posted of e4e from a great range of sources, both in Canada and internationally. Here's a summary of some of the recent feedback, with links:
NOVEMBER 1, 2008 -- I've been receiving a decent flow of commentary on the book through the feedback feature of this website. Here is a selection of a few of the comments received. Thanks to everyone who has submitted comments, praise, criticism, and suggestions for future editions.
OCTOBER 20, 2008 -- I am blushing, really blushing. Three more extremely kind reviews of Economics for Everyone have appeared in various publications from Canada's left. Here are some choice bits, with links to the full reviews. I am very humbled by the support this project is getting from the incredibly hard-working people who make social change happen on the ground. Thank you very, very much!
SEPTEMBER 2: Labour Day was the hook for the Vancouver Province to run a nice story on Economics for Everyone, complete with full-length photo of the author (Aussie friends take note: you can see I am wearing my RMWilliams shit-kickers!).
Here's a somewhat fuzzy pdf of the original story.
JULY 24 2008: My good pal Marc Lee, crusading economist for the CCPA and the third chairperson of the Progressive Economics Forum, posted these very kind words about Economics for Everyone on the PEF's awesome blog-site:
JULY 8 2008: This month's edition of the CCPA Monitor contains a detailed (and very generous) review of Economics for Everyone from Mel Watkins.
“For far too long, the field of economics has been an elite, members-only affair. And sure enough, the policies it has produced have served those elites all too well. Jim Stanford, in his charming and conversational style, invites us to crash the club and reclaim economics as a tool to better society as a whole. Stanford is that rare breed: the teacher who changed your life. He has written a book – both pragmatic and idealistic – with the power to change the world.” Naomi Klein, Author of The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism.
“I have been waiting all my adult life for this book. Jim Stanford, brilliant economist himself, can’t stand the high esteem in which most in his profession hold themselves or the mystery they use to surround their field. So he spilled the beans. He wrote a terrific book that demystifies economics and makes the subject accessible to us all. Now there’s going to be trouble!” Maude Barlow, Voluntary Chairperson, Council of Canadians, and international water rights campaigner.
